What we promise

We help you find, and connect you to the business when you say yes.

The website

You do not need an account to use this site. This guide does not currently offer sign-in, account-linked progress or a newsletter signup. If we add these features, we will explain their data use before they collect your information.

What we save on your device. The dining shortlist uses local storage in your browser. Bear checkoffs stay in the current collection until you choose Save progress; that saved copy also stays on this device. These choices are not synchronized to an account or sent to our server. Map theme choices may use session storage for this browsing session. Clear your browser’s site data, or switch to a different browser or device, and it starts over.

Sort by distance. On the bear map, you can tap “Sort by distance from me.” We ask for your location only when you tap it. The coordinates are held in the page’s memory to sort the list. Our application does not save them to browser storage or send them to our server. Your browser or operating system handles the location request under its own settings.

Other services your browser may load. Depending on the page and its configuration, your browser may request map resources from Mapbox, business photos and ratings from Google’s Places widgets, and business images hosted by HighLevel. These services can receive normal request information such as your IP address. Maps and photo widgets have text or link alternatives when they are unavailable. Each of these companies handles data under its own privacy practices, separate from ours.

Fonts. The typeface on this site ships with the page itself. Your browser does not make a separate live request to a font company’s server to display it.

Hosting. Like any website, our hosting provider receives standard technical information your browser sends, such as your IP address, to deliver the page to you.

Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand which public guide pages people visit, which places and events they open, and whether they click directions or Call Tamesha. We send public page paths and titles and public content identifiers. We do not send URL query strings, referring page URLs, form contents, account details or your precise location. Google Analytics uses cookies and processes technical information, including device and browser details and approximate location derived from your IP address. We disable advertising features and automatic search, form, scroll and outbound-link tracking. Account, review and operator pages are excluded. Clearing or blocking analytics cookies changes measurement. See Google’s Privacy Policy and Google’s analytics opt-out tool. Google Search verification is separate from this collection.

The phone operator (Tamesha)

When you call (252) 675-4098, an AI operator named Tamesha answers. Here is what we collect when you call, and why:

• Your phone number. We use it to run the call, associate caller records and recognize returning callers. Caller-requested texts use that same number.
• A recording and transcript of the call. Ordinary calls are recorded and transcribed to help us review the service. Health-related calls have the exception described below. Tamesha tells you this before you’re connected: This call is recorded and transcribed.
• What you asked for, and what Tamesha found for you, kept as call notes.
• Any text messages you asked for, described below.

If we connect you to a business. If you ask Tamesha to connect you to a local business, and their line answers, whether by a person, a voicemail greeting, or a phone menu, we join your call to theirs automatically. For ordinary nonmedical connections, recording continues for that part of the call, and the business hears a short recorded notice before you’re connected: New Bern Insider connecting a caller. This call is recorded and transcribed. That business is not New Bern Insider, and connecting you to them is not an endorsement of them.

Where this is kept. Twilio carries calls and stores conference recordings and transcription resources. ElevenLabs handles Tamesha’s AI conversation and its conversation records, using its configured AI model provider. HighLevel holds caller/contact records, call notes and requested text messages. Our server also retains call/session and connection metadata. A recording link in a business record is not the recording file itself.

Medical connections. The medical connection path pauses recording before dialing a pharmacy, dentist, doctor or other medical business. If that pause cannot be confirmed, it does not dial the business. Health-related transcript and detailed summary notes are suppressed in HighLevel; a limited connection note can remain. Audio from before the pause and managed conversation records can remain with providers under their own settings. This is not a promise that the entire call is erased.

Who can see it. The small team that runs New Bern Insider and the service providers that run the phone line for us.

Separate records. Recordings, transcripts, managed conversation records and HighLevel notes are separate copies. Deleting a recording link or a contact note does not delete the underlying recording or every provider’s copy.

If you call more than once. We may recognize your number from an earlier call, greet you by name if we have one on file, and use a short summary of your last few calls, up to three, to help you faster. Someone using the same number may hear that personalization. This is a courtesy, not proof of who you are. Tamesha will not read your call history back to you unless it’s useful to your current question. If a saved name is wrong, tell her and she’ll use the right one for that call.

Asking us to delete your information. Send questions or requests about your recordings, transcripts and call notes to hello@mail.newberninsider.com. Do not include sensitive details in your first message. A request concerns records held by us and our phone-service providers; clearing this website’s browser storage does not remove phone records.

Text messages

Tamesha only sends a text if you ask for one during a call, and only after you confirm you want it, agree to receive it, and confirm the number you’re calling from. We send it to that same number, never a different one. A single call can receive up to 3 texts, each a short, plain-fact message. Message and data rates may apply. Requested texts are separate from newsletter signup or marketing consent.

Reply STOP to any text from us to stop future texts.

If a text does not arrive, call back and Tamesha can repeat it.

Businesses you are connected to

When you ask to be connected and a business’s line answers, we join that call automatically, based on the phone number listed for that business. That business is not New Bern Insider. We do not control how they run their own line, or what they do with your call once you’re speaking with them directly. Ordinary nonmedical connections keep recording and the business hears a notice before you’re joined. Medical connections follow the exception above. Businesses can have their own privacy and recording practices.

Searches and connection records

When Tamesha researches your request, search terms can be sent to search providers used by the operator, including Treg and its search services. Avoid sharing sensitive details that are not needed for your question. Connection metadata is separate from your personal bear collection.

The separate Call Tamesha giveaway

The giveaway site has its own entry and prize-information disclosure. Phone-entry and winner handling are separate from this website’s device saves. Bear checkoffs do not enter that giveaway or establish eligibility for a bear prize.
